Gold and silver futures notched historical highs during the electronic trading session. US President Donald Trump threatened to impose additional tariffs on eight NATO member countries over the Greenland issue, prompting market hedging.

The latest spot gold price was USD4,666.59 per ounce, with an intraday high of USD4,689.39. New York gold futures for February delivery added USD76.5 or 1.7% in the electronic trading session, reporting at USD4,671.9 per ounce.
